National Rural Development Programme (NRDP) is a funding instrument created by the European Union to support the member countries in implementing the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). CAP is a set of rules and mechanisms which controls the producing, processing and commercializing of agricultural products within the European Union and which also gives a great concern to rural development. NRDP represents a funding opportunity for the Romanian rural environment which reaches approximately € 7.5 billion, between 2007 and 2013. NRDP is based on the principle of co-financing for the private investments. The European funds for agriculture will be accessed through the key document – NRDP.
Thematic priority axis:
1 – Improving the competitiveness of the agricultural and forestry sector
1.1 Measures aimed at promoting knowledge and improving human potential
- Vocational training, information actions and diffusion of knowledge
- Setting up of young farmers
1.2 Measures aimed at restructuring and developing the physical potential and promoting innovation
- Modernization of agricultural holdings
- Improving the economic value of forests
- Adding value to agricultural and forestry products
- Improving and developing infrastructure related to the development and adaptation of agriculture and forestry
1.3 Transitional measures for Romania
- Supporting semi-subsistence agricultural holdings
- Setting up of producer groups
- Providing farm advisory and extension services
2 - Improving the environment and the countryside
2.1 Measures targeting the sustainable use of agricultural lands
- Support for Less Favoured Mountain Areas
- Support for Less Favoured Areas – other than Mountain Areas

2.2 Measures targeting the sustainable use of forestry lands
- First afforestation of agricultural land
3 - The quality of life in rural areas and the diversification of the rural economy
